Georgia 2025 đŹđŞ
đŹđŞ Georgia â first impressions: the road from Kutaisi to Mazeri in Svaneti
Arrival in Kutaisi. Quick car pickup. And then â Mazeri, SvanetiÂ
Sounds like a classic start to a Georgia road trip, right?
Except we hadnât even properly left Kutaisi when driving in Georgia started educating us faster than any guidebook ever could â because Georgia doesnât send warning signalsÂ
Georgia simply⌠pulls you into its rhythmÂ
Driving in Georgia â whoâs really in charge here?
â Look, sheâs literally walking right down the middle of the road.
â Walking? I think she actually lives hereÂ
And that was the moment we realized that on the KutaisiâMazeri road in Svaneti, the concept of traffic has a very loose definition.
You wonât hear nervous honking here.
No one is in a rush.
And the middle of the road? It often belongs to the cowsÂ
Wandering and meditating right in the middle of the asphalt.
Lying in the shade of trees in groups of ten â as if they were holding a board meeting of the pasture.
And once they find the perfect spot, they sit down and⌠the road instantly turns into a living barricade of horns and tailsÂ

Georgia isnât just about cows
Between them, a horse slips byÂ
Something snorts from the roadside  because pigs also take part in what in Georgia can calmly be called street traffic.
And thatâs when one thing hits you:
this isnât a country that adapted animals to infrastructure.
Itâs the infrastructure that adapts to the animals.
What are the roads in Georgia like? Rhythm, dust, and absolutely no rush
Whatâs incredible is that these cows truly know when and where to go â they operate according to their own well-tested plan.
In the morning, they head out to the pastures like a well-organized crew, then spread out across the valleys of Svaneti, crossing the asphalt and passing cars.
In the evening, just before dusk, they return to the village on their own â proof that this system works flawlesslyÂ
No one watches over them and no one herds them.
Itâs not chaos. Itâs a systemÂ
And thatâs when you start to understand that driving in Georgia isnât about fighting the traffic.
Itâs about adjusting to the rhythm of the place.
The road from Kutaisi to Mazeri â asphalt with a personality of its own
The road conditions?
Letâs just say the GPS gets out of breath at times.
On the way toward Svaneti, there are stretches as smooth as a European highway. And then suddenlyâŚ
the car starts bouncing like itâs on a trampoline.
Stones. Dust.
Turns that test both the suspension and your patienceÂ
But all it takes is one glance to the side.
Green valleys of the CaucasusÂ
Villages clinging to the slopesÂ
A river cutting through the valley like a silver ribbonÂ
And suddenly, you stop caring about the suspensionÂ
Because the road to Mazeri in Georgia isnât just a drive â itâs a slow transition from Europe toward the raw CaucasusÂ
Svaneti isnât âprettyâ â itâs raw
On the very first day, we already knew it would be beautiful.
You just have to watch your step⌠and whatâs under the hoodÂ
Because Georgia is a mix of chaos, charm, and authenticity â so you have to learn its rhythm.
Finally, after hours of bouncing over stones and winding serpentines toward Mazeri, a view opened up before us that made us forget about everythingÂ
The first houses of Mazeri.
Sunlight brushing the meadowsÂ
Silence broken only by cowbells and the sound of the riverÂ
And in the distance, the snow-covered peaks of the Caucasus, looking as if someone had painted themÂ
â Who needs the Maldives when you can have a view like this?
â Except instead of palm trees, youâve got cows and dustÂ
â Do you see those mountains?
â I do⌠and I already know tomorrow is going to hurtÂ

In the evening, looking at the mountains through the window, I thought this place holds something magical within it.
Georgian roads teach humility, but at the same time they reward you with views, calm, and that extraordinary simplicity that goes straight to the heartÂ
And the cows? In the morning, they headed back to work againÂ
Meanwhile, we hit the trail, because someone promised it would hurt⌠and thatâs exactly how it wasÂ
And Mazeri?
Mazeri was just a stop along the way.
Because when Ushba stands before you, you donât stay in the valley.
You go find out what ârawâ really meansÂ
